Art & Justice: A panel discussion on how art can be used as a tool for social change

The ArtWorks! program is collaborating with artist Dread Scott (http://dreadscott.home.mindspring.com/) to create a multi-media public artwork that seeks to raise this city 's awareness about the loss of hope and the loss of potential caused by epidemic juvenile violence. This project, ". . .Or does it explode, " will explore ways in which art can create a forum for youth, adults, and community stakeholders to "hear " each other as well as contribute to the debate that surrounds gun violence. Murals & Gardens Tour
10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  --  (Tour begins and ends at the) White Dog Café, 3420 Sansom Street
Jane Golden, founder and director of the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and Joan Reilly, senior director of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s acclaimed Philadelphia Green program, invite you to join them for a two-hour trolley tour of the murals and gardens of West Philadelphia. Discover urban oases and participate in a vibrant discussion with two of Philadelphia’s visionary leaders in the field of neighborhood transformation. Tickets are $45 per person and include lunch at the White Dog Café following the tour. Space is limited and reservations are required. Exhibition: Creative Capital

MAP will host an exhibition of arts and crafts created by members of its staff from July 25-August 25 in the Commonwealth Gallery at the Lincoln Financial Mural Arts Center at the Thomas Eakins House. Gallery hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A limited selection of artwork is available for purchase.
