This summer, Big Picture students designed and painted sneakers with the support of the locally based footwear retailer VILLA. We invite you to walk and rally with our students in the City Hall courtyard as they share their artwork to deliver a powerful message about the importance of art in their lives.
After the rally, we invite you to join us in City Hall to view an exhibition of artwork by Mural Corps and Big Picture students. This fall, Mural Corps students explored identity through the creation of short graphic novels and self-portraits. The graphic novels use art and text to convey a personal story. The self-portraits explore identity by challenging conceptions about how the world portrays us and how we portray ourselves. Big Picture students created large-scale, mixed media, collaborative treasure maps that represent each student's ideas about how to "be the change."
Big Picture and Mural Corps programs are made possible by ACE Group, Anonymous, The Christopher Ludwick Foundation, City of Philadelphia, City of Philadelphia Department of Human Services, City of Philadelphia Department of Streets, PA Department of Community and Economic Development, Dolfinger-McMahon Foundation, Foundations, Inc., The Forrest & Frances Lattner Foundation, Lincoln Financial Foundation, Philadelphia Local Initiatives Support Corporation, National Endowment for the Arts, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Philadelphia Youth Network, Inc., PTS Foundation, Sheila Fortune Foundation, Surdna Foundation, TD Bank, N.A., William Penn Foundation.
