The Sage Mural Dedication

Nazeer Sabree creates thought-provoking figure paintings and collages that explore the complexities and nuances of the black experience. With a strong background in traditional art techniques, Nazeer Sabree has developed a unique style that seamlessly blends classical elements with contemporary ideas. Through their paintings, a profound social and political awareness characterizes Nazeer’s work and the ongoing struggles for justice and equality.  Sabree’s work is consistently potent, evocative, and impactful, whether as a striking portrait or an abstract composition.

Following Art Education’s theme of Fairy Tales and Folklore, Naz is creating a work in our 417 N. 8th Street Classroom in Unit 501. Drawing inspiration from the Hero’s Journey, this mural explores the character of the Sage, an archetype that represents wisdom and leadership, which is highlighted by the student selected historical and pop culture figures collaged on the face. This mural also explores heroism as well as how young people have the power to shape their own narratives.

The mural is funded by the City of Philadelphia Office of Children and Family Services
