PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Friday July 22 – Lunch, Site Visits and Opening Reception

A keynote presentation by Michael Rakowitz and lunch will be followed by trolley-guided site visits throughout Philadelphia to SW Roots: Bartram’s Garden and Mural Arts, Southeast by Southeast, and West Philadelphia presented by Philadelphia LISC, Spiral Q, Tiny WPA, and PEC CDC. The evening of July 22 we will have a reception from 6:30-8:30pm for all participants at the historic Eastern State Penitentiary to share some food, listen to music and take in Eastern State’s latest exhibition on Prisons Today. The reception will also serve as a release event for several new publications including the Art & The Public Sphere issue on “ethics”, edited by Moore faculty member Jonathan Wallis and featuring numerous profiles of local and national projects, and The Social Practice that is Race by artist Dan S. Wang and Moore faculty members Anthony Romero.

Saturday July 23 – Symposium

This day of presentations and dialogue will involve several “deep dive” presentations about particular groups and broader thematic conversations about ethics and social engagement in the arts. Confirmed speakers include Risë Wilson (Rauschenberg Foundation), A Long Walk Home’s Girl/Friends, Michelle Angela Ortiz and Erika Almiron, Lucia Sanroman (Yerba Buena Center for the Arts), Sean Kelley (Eastern State Penitentiary), Nato Thompson (Creative Time), and Louise Pilar Martorano (RedLine).

During the lunch event students from Moore’s Social & Studio Practices program will be facilitating discussions and a student-curated film festival on the theme of ethics, attention and intention will be screened.

Interpretation will be provided for monolingual Spanish speakers by Intergalactic Interpretation Collective and the day will be live-streamed in order to reach a broader national audience. Correspondents from interdisciplinary civic fields will be invited to write reflections on the convening and and various efforts will be made to incorporate the voices of a cohort of past presenters from 2015 through writing and video.

Sunday July 24 – Morning Brunch, Site Visit and Panel

Visit the Schuylkill Center for a hike, breakfast and a panel discussion held in conjunction with Marion Wilson’s collaborative Moss Project. Join the discussion with a panel Marion Wilson, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Jane Harris, and Patricia Phillips (moderator).

Only $25 for All Three Days and Includes Receptions, plus Lunch on Friday/Saturday and Breakfast on Saturday/Sunday.
