Hey muralistas! Are you ready for Mural Arts Month?

October is a magical time in Philadelphia. And with all of the public art and public programs swirling around with those gorgeous autumnal leaves, it’s time to get out and about and experience the best your city has to offer.

Mural Arts Month starts with a ginormous kickoff party on Friday, September 30. Grab your friends and get set for the best dance party Snyder Plaza has ever seen. We’ve got DJ legends and Mural Arts friends Cash Money, Cosmo Baker, Gun$ Garcia, and DJ Royale coming to spin a night of fantastic music. Philly’s best food trucks are headed to the Plaza, set to serve up a variety of scrumptious snacks. Our friends at Circadium are ready to show off their acrobatic prowess, live painters will wow you with impressive visuals, and four brand new murals by Steve Powers, Joe Boruchow, Isaac Lin, and Peter Ferrari are ready to shine in the spotlight.

It’s a magical evening fit for your friends and family, neighbors and coworkers, and all the art lovers you know.

Shinique Smith and Mind Over Media

This past summer, 45 students explored the ins and outs of mass media, content creation, and how to add artist and student perspectives to national discussions around race, youth, and media with the project Mind Over Media.

Listen in on Sunday, October 3rd as artists Shinique Smith and Derrick Adams join Jane Golden to discuss how their personal development, and current practices relate to Mind Over Media, and then join our Artrepreneurs for a pop-up shop and crafty and creative activities!

And if you loved Shinique Smith’s work, don’t miss the dedication of Shine on Monday, October 3. This FREE afternoon of kid-friendly fun features dancing and arts activities.

Stay tuned next week for a guide to more intriguing Mural Arts Month events!
