Mural Arts Month Kick-Off Press Conference

Mural Arts Philadelphia (Mural Arts), in partnership with presenting sponsor TD Bank, is thrilled to announce its 26th Annual Mural Arts Month this October, continuing this year’s 40th anniversary theme: “Roots & Reimagination.” This theme honors Mural Arts’ deep-rooted history of community engagement and artistic innovation while inspiring a visionary future for public art in the City of Philadelphia. Through participatory public art that beautifies, advocacy that inspires, and educational programming and employment opportunities that empower, Mural Arts continues to enrich the city’s vibrancy and inclusivity. The commitment of artists, reflected in their reimagined creations, has not only uplifted and transformed communities but has also reinforced Philadelphia’s esteemed reputation as the “Mural Capital of the World.” This theme is a testament to Mural Arts’ enduring role as a bridge between past traditions and future possibilities, fueling community change and individual empowerment throughout Philadelphia.

The press conference will include a dedication of a Mural Arts Month mini-mural by artist Ayiana Viviana at LOVE Park and will offer a preview of the month-long celebration, featuring events and activities for all ages and interests.

The event will also feature artists from the To the Polls project. To The Polls is a bi-annual, non-partisan mural project created with Mural Arts Philadelphia and curator Conrad Benner (Founder of StreetsDept.com) to rally Philadelphia around civic participation through the act of voting. Art is a critical tool of advocacy, and murals are the most democratic form of art that exists. Public art and voting education/advocacy are a natural combination. To The Polls encourages Philadelphians to fight for the future they want, embraces communities historically disenfranchised, and reaches out to passersby to remind them to make their mark through voting.
