Oh So Affirmed

Join us at 5213 Woodland Ave for the powerful dedication of Oh So Affirmed, an awe-inspiring mural that marks Briana Dawkins’ debut as the lead artist for Mural Arts. With an impressive background as a former Philadelphia Black Artist Fellow and a dedicated teaching artist for Mural Arts’ Restorative Justice and Art Education programs, Dawkins has channeled her immense talent into this extraordinary masterpiece. Inspired by the remarkable Saboor Mühammad, a cherished community member tragically lost in May 2021, this mural bursts with infectious optimism and vibrant energy. Requested by the Southwest CDC as a heartfelt tribute to Mühammad, a co-founder of the organization, the mural encapsulates his legacy as a loving family man, a passionate activist, an effective community organizer, and an incredibly successful entrepreneur who once served under former Council Member Jannie Blackwell. Collaborating closely with Women’s Reentry Program members, Dawkins has skillfully brought this heartfelt tribute to life through her masterful brushstrokes.
