Summer Incubator

Community-Catalyst Incubator for Mural Artists 

Join Philadelphia’s leading muralists and community arts leaders for a unique learning opportunity. This immersive program offers a week-long learning experience that is cohort-centered. We invite participants nationally to join our cohort in Philadelphia for an exciting and transformative experience! Our cohort will be limited to approximately10 participants.

This training is intended for artists and for cultural workers. The incubator is best suited for any person interested in expanding their own, or their organization’s, socially engaged artistic practice to include mural-making. The incubator is also a great experience for established muralists seeking to root community-centered approaches into all aspects of their work. Led by a team of professional artists and arts administrators connected to Mural Arts Philadelphia’s (MAP) 40+ year history, participants will gain deep insight into MAP’s approach to project planning, community engagement strategy, and mural-making techniques.

Schedule

The program will run Monday Jul 29, 2024 through Friday Aug 2, 2024. Most programming will occur from 9:30am-4pm each day. An evening event will take place on Thursday August 1st.

• Monday : Walking Tour of Local Murals & Mural Cloth Demonstration with Resident Artist
• Tuesday: Visit Public Art Projects and meet with Creative Teams
• Wednesday: Visit Public Art Projects and meet with Creative Teams
• Thursday: Artist Studio Tour & Join Philadelphia Creatives at Annual Artist Party
• Friday: Project Management 101, Workshop & 1:1 Consultations with MAI Team

Fees

The fee to participate is $2,500 per individual and includes a starter kit of mural-making supplies. Participants traveling from outside Philadelphia to take part in the incubator will be responsible for covering their own travel to Philadelphia, lodging, and any meals outside of programming hours. Lunch will be provided daily during programming days.

Registration Deadline: We will accept applications on a rolling basis until Monday June 10th 2024, or we meet our capacity of approximately10 participants, whichever comes first.
