52nd Street Theatre

52nd Street Theatre by artist Jonathan Laidacker is located in the Mill Creek neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural was conceptually developed through a number of community brainstorming meetings at four different sites in the area. Throughout the summer of 2007, students worked on parachute cloth (a material often used to paint murals off the wall before being adhered to the wall) sections for the mural in their classrooms. The mural takes the form of a mural within a mural as the painted students appear to be painting a mural of their own. The background of the mural is composed of neighborhood residents reading poems which were developed at a community togetherness meeting. Lines from these poems weave around the figures and through the vine like elements.
