Convergence

Convergence by Andréa Grasso is an abstract geometric mural at 8th and Manton streets in South Philadelphia. It is designed site-specifically to compliment and to contrast with the surrounding built-environment. The artist describes the art as being a testament to the idea that we need to begin to rethink the spaces that we live in, our relationships to them, and the concept of what we consider as being “normal.” Grasso’s projects frequently evoke the theme of inter-connectivity, and are depicted in strikingly colorful styles.

From the artist statement:

“The abstract part of the design was inspired by the architecture of the space and attempting to create a balanced composition on an angled wall. The figurative elements interact with the background in a transient nature. They are symbols but they have been so normalized that they can easily be forgotten.

This concept is one that explores the complexity of life and the problems of privilege and complacency. Easy decisions are never quite so, even the simplest of decisions can have repercussions that can ripple for generations. This desire is understandable but it should be approached with caution. Ultimately the hard decision can be the right one . . .”
