ARTsolutely Awesome North Philly, Yeah!

ARTsolutely Awesome North Philly, Yeah! by artist Marcus Akinlana was located in the Francisville neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Painted on the east wall of The Arts Garage, a performance venue where freelance and emerging entrepreneurial-artists interact and show their creative talents, this mural is a tribute to the arts community of Philadelphia and Francisville, the neighborhood, the civil rights movement and freedom struggles. It features prominent figures from Philadelphia’s storied history like: Leon H. Sullivan, a civil rights leader; Meta Vaux Fuller, a Harlem renaissance artist; Jazz musician John Coltrane; and creator of the first integrated dance company Nadia Chilkovsky Nahumck.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (lost to demolition/new construction in 2016).
