It’s All About Community

This mural is entitled It’s All About Community by Jon Laidacker. It’s All About Community focuses on cognitive challenges and the associated stigma. Too frequently, adults with cognitive challenges are believed to be incapable of self-expression; they are degraded by the assumptions of others and are perceived as being powerless. Self-expression is one of the most prized and empowering of all freedoms. Whether this expression takes shape through the use of words, music, the visual arts, or any other outlet, its communicative power and influence on relationships is vital to our understandings of ourselves and the world around us. The mural strives to overturn negative and divisive assumptions about adults with cognitive challenges, promote a process of personal empowerment and community dialogue while encouraging respect, understanding, and healing.
