The Time, Our Place, The Sound

The Time, Our Place, The Sound by artist Ernel Martinez was located in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural was created to celebrate the improvisational nature of jazz music but to still retain the structure of the music. This is embedded in the way the mural was pained with small vignettes of musicians playing music set into a grid giving each their own space to play and showcase what Jazz is all about. At the same time these musicians while part of a singular mural are set apart as distinct giving the wall a sense of action and vibrancy found in every note of the genre.
