Tribute to Jacqui Campbell and WOAD (West Oak Lane Against Drugs)

Tribute to Jacqui Campbell and WOAD (West Oak Lane Against Drugs) by artist Karl Yoder is located in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural is a tribute to the late Jacqui Cambell, founder of the West Oak Lane Avenue Against Drugs (W.O.A.D.). W.O.A.D. was fundamental in closing a number of drug houses and clearing drug corners. Ms. Campbell is pictured with her trademark bullhorn, which she traditionally used during the night anti-drug vigils she organized. The mural was based on a Philadelphia Inquire photograph of her during an anti-drug vigil. Her husband, Edward Cambell, who continues the work his late wife, organized the mural project. The mural also depicts two police officers shot in the line of duty in 1995 and 1996.
W.O.A.D. also acquired the lot surrounding the mural to create city gardens and continues to beautify the area. The community is pleased that the mural will serve as a reminder of past anti-drug organizations and night vigils. Mr. Campbell was extremely pleased with the quality of the mural and how the artist was able to capture the image of his wife and her passion for her cause.
