The Odyssey

The Odyssey by artist Delia King is painted on an interior wall of Middle Years Alternative School (MYA) in the Mill Creek neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. King and students from MYA reinterpret Homer’s ”The Odyssey” into a modern version retold in the form of this interior mural. Painted over three walls, the retelling of the story puts the focus on a group of teenagers swept off to a foreign land and transformed from their usual selves. Following the same plot points as the original story by Homer, this mural puts an otherwise complicated tale into more familiar terms inspiring students and encouraging exploration of what many consider to be classic literature.
