Local Heroes

Local Heroes by artist Ernel Martinez is located in the West Powelton neighborhood of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The mural reflects the history of Lancaster Avenue, before desegregation in Philadelphia, when it was rooted in black entrepreneurship and industry. A celebration of struggle and success, the mural is a visual tribute to community members, business leaders, and youth mentors from the Lancaster Avenue commercial corridor who are committed to the cultural, economic, and social development of their neighborhood.
