Long Play Philly DJs

Long-Play Philly DJs by Shepherd Fairey is a mural inspired by DJ culture located in Center City Philadelphia. The mural represents the city’s rich DJ legacy (and future), highlights its significant contributions, and inspires future generations and innovators to come.

This work was the culmination of the year-long “Philly DJ Mural Project.” This initiative brought the city’s history of raising DJs to a new generation with youth-focused events. Philly-raised DJ Cosmo Baker included members of the DJ community into the year’s events.

Throughout the school year, students worked on the new mural and participated in educational programs with DJs at Scratch Academy. Students worked alongside DJs to learn not only the technical skills needed to bring their turntable dreams to life, but also the in-depth history of the art and its influence. (Scratch Academy has its own storied history: it was created by the late Jam Master Jay.) Students showed off their newly acquired skills at a number of Philly DJ Mural Project events.
