You Bring Out the Blank in Me

The Spoken Word project uses spoken words as a site for identity making through story telling that explores moments, events, or people of inspiration. The project is designed to use collective literacy practices to build reading, writing, sharing and reflecting skills.

You Bring out the Blank in Me is a Spoken Word Series mural by Yis Goodwin. The design was inspired by students from Taggart Elementary School and members in its community. On the far left of the mural, a tree character sleeps in a nest of blue and light blue clouds. A cloud character swings on a tire swing next to the tree. The background is full of white lines and clouds. At the far right, another cloud character smiles while sleeping. The mural’s title is spelled out in stylized lettering that appears throughout the mural.
