Metamorphosis Mural

Metamorphosis Mural was designed by Los Angeles-based muralist Paige Smith. Installed on the 11th Street facade of the Hope Partnership for Education, this spring-themed mural brings much welcomed visual vibrancy to the neighborhood and was designed to foster discussion among residents. The mural’s dedication on June 12, 2024, was also a culmination of three Origami Butterfly workshops for community members held in the spring, where the paper art was ‘released’ upon the mural’s reveal. Hope Partnership was overjoyed to collaborate with Mural Arts Philadelphia given the organizations’ shared values and priorities in beautifying the city of Philadelphia for all residents.

The mural depicts a garden landscape. Hundreds of origami butterflies made from dissolvable paper were created by students, staff and friends of Hope Partnership. They were placed on top of the completed mural
and were gradually washed away by the rain.
