Park Pleasant

Park Pleasant by artist Philip Adams is located in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Painted on the exterior of the Park Pleasant Nursing Home, this mural subdues the harshness of the buildings brick exterior. Flowers and trees painted in vibrant colors frame an a grandfather holding hands with his granddaughter as they walk under arching branches towards the entry way of Park Pleasant Nursing Home, bringing the focus away from the connotations of end of life care and towards the importance of family and the passing of knowledge, stories, and values from one generation to the next. Purple flows float throughout all three murals at this location to show their interconnection. The artist worked with Park Pleasant residents in workshops where they painted 20 purple flowers which were installed throughout the nursing home’s hallways.
Conceptually, this mural is an extension of the Window of Stories mural, also by Phillip Adams, located at 1128 S 47th Street, within view of Park Pleasant.
