Philadelphia Firsts

Two large murals hanging high on walls in the interior of this WAWA store depict historical events or inventions born in the Philadelphia. The design is to show off what is great about Philadelphia as well as to show off the 11.500 sq. ft. store, the biggest WAWA ever (so far).
Some graphic references shown in these hangings include the city skyline; the (now defunct) Zoo Balloon; Fairmount Waterworks; an electric trolley; Girard College; Benjamin Franklin Bridge; Fairmount Park; Bartram’s Garden; and the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
Along the lower walls are narrow panels indicating examples of Philadelphia Firsts and impressive buildings, including: the Union Fire Company, the William Penn Statue atop City Hall; the Public Ledger Building; the First Bank of the United States; Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and Philadelphia’s designation as a World Heritage City.
Location Note: Murals are located in the interior of a commercial business and can only be viewed during business hours.
