Tuscan Landscape

Tuscan Landscape by artist Patricia Ingersoll was located in the Powelton neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural features a foreground of Roman arches and columns found throughout Italy’s Tuscany region. The Tuscan countryside is visible through the arches. The sun is high in the sky illuminating all the different colors on the rolling green hills and twisting dirt roads.

Ingersoll used a sponge on the arches with several washes of color to create the fresco effect. The arched window with the plant and the door on the left hand side of the mural are both trompe l’oeil. These elements were added because the original measurements taken of the wall were off.

The mural was restored in 2001 and again in 2005.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (painted out in 2011).
