Shift

Shift is a photo collage mural by artist Sarah Zwerling located in the lobby of the Comcast Technology Center building in the Logan Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The photo collage presents a reimagined vision of the city, where the relationships between homes, buildings, and trees are in constant flux—shifting, evolving, and dissolving. The timescales of trees stretch from fast seasonal changes to slow, decades-long growth, contrasting with seemingly permanent buildings that can appear or vanish in an instant. At ground level, every sidewalk, curb, and stoop is tightly fit. Moving upward, irregular margins between trees and houses form; distortions of scale between features become exaggerated; and buildings fill the gaps, only to open again. These multiphased patterns of change between the street, city trees, the sidewalk, and facades define the experience of Philadelphia.
