See the Diff?

Part of the Mural Arts Big Picture art education program, See the Diff? emerged from a two-week-long drawing dialogue between two groups of students who did not know each other. Participants were asked to send a “message in a bottle” to another classroom of students, starting off a “call and response” drawing exchange where each of the students then responded to the messages sent to them by the other class. The Miss Rockaway Armada artists collective employed the idea of communication between two distant worlds and the images developed by the students as the basis of the mural design. The development of the design focused on portraying the insight and imagination of the students as much as possible, while also giving the artists a chance to enter into the dialogue by responding to and transforming the material provided by students.
