Patterns and Family Trees

Patterns and Family Trees by artist Delia King is located at the Jerome Brown Playground in the Tioga neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Covering three sides of the building, this mural combines abstract patterns with figures to inspire feelings and evoke emotions about the memory of lost loved ones.

The north side is a pattern reminiscent of wrapping paper, wallpaper, Persian palaces or any number of things. This side faces a playground for small children. King wanted this wall to stimulate imagination.

The south side has portraits of families from the neighborhood. King wanted it to be a cross-section of the economic diversity of the neighborhood.
