The Philadelphians Opening Reception

The Philadelphians is a public artwork that includes a series of cinematic film portraits that collectively depict the historically diverse cultural heritage of the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection. Nadia Hironaka and Matthew Suib have been artists in residence at the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA) since 2024. In The Philadelphians, Hironaka and Suib have filmed portrait vignettes of ten present-day Philadelphians to create a film that celebrates many of the immigrant communities, who over three centuries have collectively built the vibrant city that Philadelphia is today.
The Opening Reception will unveil the video installation at the Love Park Welcome Center and include high-profile speakers, including elected officials and Michael Forman and Jennifer Rice, Founders of the Forman Arts Initiative. The event will include food and performances.
