PCCD Hunting Park Youth Design Mural

Murals on the Move at Playstreets, 2700 North Judson Street, August 18, 2020. Photo by Steve Weinik.

Mural Arts’ Education Department has continued its six-part collaboration with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to work with rec center youth and create new murals across the city. Students partake in a multi-week art education program that teaches them foundational art-making skills, fosters creative expression, and builds self-confidence. The program culminates in a mural designed and painted at each center by the youth in collaboration with their instructors and the Mural Arts Rec Crew. The Mural Arts Rec Crew is a group of Guild graduates who work at rec centers around the city, revitalizing community spaces and assisting with mural installations.

Lead Teaching Artist and Muralist Miriam Singer, Assistant Teaching Artist Nevaeh Ryals, and the Rec Crew worked with Hunting Park Recreation Center’s after-school program over ten weeks to design a mural for their after-school space. The teaching artist team has been working with the youth to talk about where home is to them and encourage them to design their own spaces and neighborhoods.  Join us as we dedicate this new mural!

This is the 5th of 6th PCCD Youth Design Mural. This Mural is indoor in the afterschool space. The youth of the afterschool program will perform a dance.
