(PARK)ing Day

The number of parks throughout Philadelphia increases dramatically each year on the third Friday in September (September 19th 2025), when activists, artists, architects, and other citizens transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks. Known as PARKing) Day, this annual event re-imagines the possibilities of 140 square feet of public space. The event celebrates parks and other public spaces in cities across the country, and raises awareness of the need for more pedestrian-friendly spaces in our urban areas.

Join Mural Arts as our Tacony Lab and Mural Arts Institute join in on all the Fun!

Tacony Lab will partner with the Tacony CDC and participate in Parking Day Philly! On this one day, the numbers of parks throughout Philadelphia increase dramatically when parking spaces become mini-parks! We are transforming the two parking spots in front of our location on Torresdale Avenue (6918 Torresdale Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19135, USA) into a shaded, family-friendly park. Come out and enjoy art activities including facepainting, buttonmaking and snacks.

The Mural Arts Institute will have artist Lili Razi for “A Cultural Placemaking Mosaic”, an ongoing public space survey that explore visitors’ favorite public places through writing, drawing, and storytelling. An installation of illustrated images from the project will also be on display. Take part in this interactive activity to share your favorite public space and contribute to this growing dialogue!
