Untitled (mural by Douglas Hoekzema, aka Hoxxoh at 200 Spring Garden Street)

This untitled mural by artist Hoxxoh mural in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties neighborhood stretches more than 300 feet along a wall that encloses a new public space at the Noble, a recently-completed mixed-use building at 200
Spring Garden Street.

Miami-based artist Hoxxoh has brought his unique painting approach to Philadelphia for the first time, resulting in a mural unlike any other in the city. His installation process is improvisational, using pressurized spray tanks to saturate the wall with layer upon layer of sweeping color fields, then applying abstract markings with contrasting colors sprayed through garden hoses and
everyday gardening tools. The approach is an exercise in letting go – the artist allows the art to guide itself along, and the viewer can re-imagine color as a symphony of movement and voice.

This untitled project adds to the expanding collection of murals along Spring Garden Avenue and in the nearby Spring Arts District. The project explores the imaginative possibilities of using spray paint on corrugated metal walls. Rather than using aerosol spray, Hoxxoh is constantly experimenting with pumps,
hoses and nozzles to achieve his projects everyday latex house paint.
