A Long View on a Clear Day

A Long View on a Clear Day by artist Eurhi Jones was painted on the 33rd Street Bridge located in the Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The community asked for a colorful, beautifying mural to include flowers and especially strawberries to represent the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. Artist Eurhi Jones created a slightly abstracted, heavily patterned, very colorful landscape. Designing a continuous, rolling landscape was a challenge. Because the artist worked so closely with traffic, she received more feedback from passing public than on any of her other previous projects. Over the course of two months, hundreds of people honked, gave a thumbs up, stopped to talk, pulled over to take pictures, and asked how they too could get a mural in their neighborhood. Children in the neighborhood asked to help and the artist held a few paint sessions with them and their parents at a nearby Muslim school and then brought them to the bridge to participate in the painting.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (replaced by Uptown Locomotion in 2015).
