A Sense of Place

A Sense of Place by artist Donald Gensler was located in the Mantua neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural takes the form of a map of the Mantua neighborhood with images of some of the residents and neighborhood scenes painted in the foreground. It was inspired by the George Washington Carver quote “How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the strong, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.” The quote appeared at the lower right of the mural.
Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (retired in 2014).
