Aizen

Aizen by artist Shawn Theodore is a colorful, abstract ground mural located in the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Theodore, a Temple University graduate and Philadelphia native, is best known for his photography that represents Black neighborhoods, displacement gentrification, and socioeconomic disparity of African Americans. However, this ground mural painted on the rear steps of the building at 900 Spring Garden Street sets him on a different course. The work is named after his daughter.

Since 2016, Spring Arts is an annual installation of temporary and permanent artworks in collaboration with Arts + Crafts Holdings. Artists are invited annually to experiment, create, and innovate old building walls between 10th and 11th, Spring Garden and Hamilton Streets to rebrand the neighborhood. Artworks are exhibited on a revolving basis, providing a diverse range of artists with the opportunity to create engaging public art.
