Anna Howard Shaw Middle School mural

This untitled mural by artist Sarah Moyer is located at the Anna Howard Shaw Middle School (now the Hardy Williams Mastery Charter School) in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Painted in warm and bright colors, this mural welcomes students to the school with inspirational words and images. A banner mural on a retaining wall at the sidewalk announces with pride the name of the school while the main entrance shows students learning and seeking the stars where their futures would be made. The mural features words to inspire the students, including: respect, hope, compassion, wisdom, citizenship, courage, responsibility, integrity.

Location Note: Though the portion of the mural with the school’s name along 55th Street was painted out in 2015, the rear portion of the mural painted along Beaumont Street is still visible (as of 2024).
