Art is for Everyone

Art is for Everyone is a mosaic by Philadelphia artist Laura Lyn Stern installed on the front of the Tacony LAB Community Art Center in the Tacony neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The project is the result of an artist-in-residence program and Stern’s work with the Tacony LAB community. It features artwork by members of the community, both adults and children, emblematic of the title that art is for everyone. The mosaic was created with pieces of glass tile and sculpted ceramic elements. This imagery reflects the many activities that occur inside the space, including children’s art, textiles and fine art elements, depicted in three-dimensional tile pieces that are outlined in a Roman-style background mosaic. A common thread winds through the entire design depicted as a thread, a drawing line, or a piece of yarn. It was dedicated as part of the Tacony LAB’s monthly First Friday event in August of 2023.

Created in 2017 by Mural Arts Philadelphia with the support of former Councilman Bobby Henon, the Tacony LAB Community Arts Center brings the neighborhood and the arts together to create a unique hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement in Northeast Philadelphia. The Tacony LAB runs an artist-in-residence program, offers art classes for adults and youth, holds open studio sessions for the public in its studio/maker space, and presents arts-focused events free of charge.
