B is for Butterfly

B is for Butterfly by artists Shari Hersh and James Burns is painted on the exterior walls of the Chester A. Arthur School in the Southwest City Center neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural was created in collaboration with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program art education Mural Corps program. Hersh had this to say about its composition: “Each courtyard represents different age groups/communities in the school. All of the murals are a collaborative effect of my mural making class offered at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (5 students), the eighth grade class at the Chester Arthur School, and myself. I used a variety of strategies to assist the eighth graders in learning to see and draw. The murals celebrate drawing, and the experience of having academy students share their expertise with the school youth was very rich.”
