Celebrating the Northeast

Celebrating the Northeast by artist Emilie Ledieu represents Philadelphia’s Northeast neighborhood in a positive and beautiful manner, both symbolically and through more literal urban imagery.
The diversity of this area is potentially unparalleled in Philadelphia, which inspired the artist to create the ribbon of color that floats around the building in the design. Over 150 different types and colors of glass were used in the creation of this ribbon, which reflects the wonderful colorfulness of the neighborhood. The tableaus were inspired by the physical beauty of the Northeast.
To make these vignettes as celebratory as possible, the artist decided to “frame” them with glass recreations of frames from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, so that the viewer thinks of their own neighborhood as a masterpiece. The three tableaus aim to celebrate and shed light on this region of Philadelphia.
