Children Are the Future

Children Art the Future by artist Parris Stancell was located in the Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mural is a combination of European, African, and Islamic influences with a central focus on a baby and its mother. The father figure was added after the completion of the mural at the request of neighborhood residents. The father was originally left out as a memorial to the many fathers missing from their children’s lives due to poverty, violence, and homelessness. The overall message of the mural is that each individual is responsible for not only their own future but also that of their community.
