Cinema Verde

Cinema Verde by artist Dennis Haugh is located in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On a building boarding the Liberty Lands Park this mural is not just static but activated by the summer drive in movies shown on the white space in the center of the mural. “Cinema Verde” is a play on words; the term “cinema verité” means “the art or technique of filming a motion picture so as to convey candid realism.” Cinema Verde is a play on the term Cinema Verité because the films are shown on the wall in the mural, and the park is a green space– the VERDE in the title. The mural depicts things that are usually found in green spaces: birds, bees, bees’ nests, vegetables, water, trees.
