Coming Home

Coming Home by artist David Guinn comprises a pair of murals painted on opposite sides of a wall located in the Logan Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

On the west-facing mural, a woman is pausing, looking down a street, towards a stylized house in the distance. On the wast-facing side of the wall, the viewer is looking back at the woman from the viewpoint of the house. Installed at the rear of a shelter for women being treated for mental illness, the shelter’s goal was to move the women into semi-independent, permanent housing. In the mural, Guinn tried to depict the beginning of the journey that the women at the shelter are undertaking—the journey towards a home and a brighter future.

The mural was restored by Josh Smith in 2023.

Location Note: Murals are located at the rear of 2042 Arch Street, visible from between 20th and 21st Streets at Cuthbert Street.
