Cops & Kids

The Cops & Kids (C&K) program was an annual series of workshops that explored identity and collaboration between law enforcement and the community. In 2010, C&K culminated in a public art project created in cooperation with the School District of Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program (Mural Arts), and the 3rd Police District.
The primary goal of C&K was to use art to confront and challenge stereotypes, while building positive relationships between two conflicting groups, where historically, poor communication has resulted in distrust and a lack of respect on both sides.
C&K provided youth a unique opportunity to contribute to major public art project side-by-side with police officers from their neighborhood. Through years of working with youth and police, Mural Arts witnessed repeatedly how public art projects and intensive workshops can offer constituents an opportunity to connect and understand one another.
