Cpl. Jimmy O’Connor Recreation Center Mural

Cpl. Jimmy O’Connor Recreation Center Mural painted by artist Damon Bain was created as part of the renaming of Chalfont Playground to Cpl. Jimmy O’Connor Memorial Playground. The entire recreation and athletic complex has been renovated and the mural on the rec center’s entrance is one of the finishing touches to the entire project.

The mural is a tribute to Cpl. O’Connor, a North Catholic graduate who was shot in the line of duty and passed away from his injuries on March 13, 2020. The memorial mural graces the walls of the recreation center where he used to volunteer and coach for the Our Lady of Calvary Athletic Association. Bain created the portrait from a photograph provided by the officer’s family. O’Connor’s name is painted on a wall adjacent to his portrait, along with a basketball, lacrosse stick and ball, football and a baseball and bat. A third panel also features a mural by Bain.
