Dick Allen

Dick Allen by artist Ernel Martinez is located in South Philadelphia. The project was a special request from the outgoing administration of former Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and developed in partnership with the Philadelphia Phillies. Designed by renowned artist Ernel Martinez, this mural pays tribute to Phillies great Richard “Dick” Allen, a seven-time All-Star, who spent nine of his 15 major league seasons (1963-77) with the Phillies and won National League Rookie of the Year in 1964.
The mural, which was announced in 2023 and completed in the fall of 2024, was designed by renowned artist Ernel Martinez, who will commemorate Allen’s recent election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by adding one final “Hall of Famer” touch to the mural. His number 15 jersey was officially retired by the Phillies in 2020. The Allen mural is located at 2021 South Broad Street in Philadelphia, which is in close proximity to Citizens Bank Park.
Mural Arts and the Phillies hosted a community paint day for a new mural on March 21, 2024. Both fans and the ownership group of the team participated in the creation of the mural in Clearwater, Florida at Spring Training.
The Dick Allen mural is a powerful tribute to Allen’s enduring impact, both as an athlete and a cultural icon. This dedication event on August 2, 2025 takes place one week after Dick Allen was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
