Downhill River

Downhill River by artist Paul Santoleri is painted on a retaining wall surrounding the 48th & Woodland Playground spray park located in the West Shore neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mural was one of three projects commissioned by the City of Philadelphia’s Capital Program Office and the Department of Parks and Recreation as part of the conversion of several deep-end pools into spray parks. The idea was to bring something uniquely Philadelphia to the projects that would set them apart from similar installations in other cities. After extensive meetings with the community, Paul Santoleri’s design concept for Downhill River was selected. The community particularly appreciated Paul’s sophisticated style and felt Downhill River best reflected the theme they were looking for – a fun and vibrant recreation facility – and complemented the spray elements of the park

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (replaced with new mural in 2023).
