Father’s Day Rally Committee, Inc.

Father’s Day Rally Committee, Inc. by artist Sam Byrd was located in the Glenwood neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A tribute to fathers, and specifically Black fathers, this mural works to dispel stereotypes and reinforce what it means to be a good father. It also gives more credence to the idea that being a parent is not a solo task but the task of your friends and family. A dad can rely on other dads to help them when they are in need. They only have to look around to see hundreds of others just like them.

The men depicted in the mural are locally and internationally known leaders, including: Martin Luther King, Jr.; Malcolm X; Herman Wrice; David P. Richardson; Tim Spencer; Dr. Leon Sullivan; Nelson Mandela; and Chief Hawk Redfeather.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (reenvisioned in 2006).
