Forest Green

Forest Green by artist Ras Malik is located in the East Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In this mural Malik painted flora and fauna of the region creating a depiction of what Philadelphia could have looked like had it never been built up. In this way the artist transports up from the cityscape into an idyllic landscape, complementing the adjacent garden. A realistic rendering of a forest with a small stream complete with several waterfalls and grazing deer this mural provided a backdrop to a community garden space. The living greens of the real plans blended in harmoniously with the the mural creating an environment that cut out the reds and blacks of the urban city around it transporting the gardeners into the woods as they tended to their plants.
