Fringe Festival Mural

Fringe Festival Mural by artists Paul Santoleri and Jennie Shanker was located in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural features a Philadelphia cityscape composed to fit the contours of the building and the parking lot below. It originally featured strong-smelling air fresheners shaped like leaves on the trees. Once the air fresheners weathered and deteriorated, the artists painted the tree turquoise.

The mural was created as part of a live-painting event during the Fringe Festival, a yearly event founded in the spirit of the original Fringe Festival organized in Edinburgh, Scottland, organized around the premise that if you have a space you can create art there (as long as you have permission by the owner if its not you).

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (covered by construction on adjacent lot ca. 2016).
