From the Hood to the Neighborhood

From the Hood to the Neighborhood by artist Lynn Denton is located in the East Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Like many urban areas around the United States, Philadelphia experiences higher crime rates. This mural is an attempt to connect youth and other individuals in the surrounding area to their community. Connections to community have been proven to help reduce crime rates in urban areas as people are less likely to feel disenfranchised, like they are alone with their struggles, and an have an increased sense of pride in their neighborhoods wellbeing. Featuring a number of community activities like sports, picnics or block parties, and helping your neighbor this mural attempts to really connect the community around it to each other, showcasing what it means to be a good neighbor and a good resident of the city.
