Future Histories

Since 1997, this wall overlooking the 3rd & Norris Playground held a Peter Paghast mural of James Gibson, a local hero beloved in the area. In its heyday, the playground housed an iconic rocketship slide. Future Histories is meant to serve as inspiration (in both color scheme and thematically) for the 3rd & Norris playground’s renovation, which planned to bring back the rocketship slide. The artist Santiago Galeas was asked to create something that inspired hope and wonder and had multi-generational appeal, while still keeping James Gibson’s memory alive, which is achieved in the silhouette on the far right.
