Growth and Continuity

Growth and Continuity by David Guinn is a mural located in Philadelphia’s Mayfair neighborhood. The design is modeled on the typical nearby Mayfair block of Guilford Street in the 1950s. A large sycamore tree is featured in the left foreground representing the history of this well-established neighborhood. A sapling in the center represents the future. Two children playing by the small tree denote the promise of the area in the course of time.

This mural expresses the multi-faceted beauty of Northeast Philadelphia, from traditions to progress, from languages to cultures, from values to hopes and dreams. The mural design shows the strong sense of neighborhood and community that is present here in Mayfair.
