Health in Mind

Health in Mind by artist Shira Walinsky is located on an interior wall of the William L. Sayre High School in the West Philadelphia neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural was part of a five year partnership between the School District of Philadelphia and Mural Arts Philadelphia which provided new murals to 100 schools and their surrounding communities. Health in Mind is the result of an eight week program engaging twelve students. The program began by exploring metaphors for health through research, writing and drawing. Students participated in designing, painting and installing the mural. Stencils were created to paint the various background patterns which were overlaid by images representing mental, physical and emotional health. The intricate interwoven patterns are a metaphor for the connections between mind, body, and spirit.
